The term "mediation" can at first be a bit of a turnoff for attorneys; as the demand for it grows in these economic times, it is difficult for us to watch a potentially solid divorce client slip through our fingers to alternative methods of dissolution. However, I am living proof that the transition from litigator to mediator can be a natural one. Lawyers deal in dispute resolution. Mediation is simply another dispute resolution method. Mediation training can make you more versatile and teach you new skills that can not only be incorperated into your practice, but applied to everyday life situations.  The conflict resolution strategies learned are invaluable, and with the demand for lower-cost, lower-impact divorces, it is not difficult to grow your practice with the introduction of mediation.  There are great resources out there for mediation training; I personally teach several courses from beginner to advanced in Missouri and Illinois. As it continues to grow in popularity, this is a wonderful time to explore the possibilites of this method.
